RCMP in Cape Breton lay first degree murder charge against James Edison Spears

A 60-year-old man is in police custody and will face a first degree murder charge related to a homicide in Inverness County, N.S. late last year.

James Edison Spears, of Port Hood, will appear in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Port Hawkesbury Apr. 18.

RCMP found the body of 82-year-old Angus Maclean Dec. 8 at his home in Colindale, but the circumstances surrounding his death have remained a mystery.

Police labeled his death a homicide days later, following an autopsy.

Const. Brad Anderson says Spears was arrested yesterday, without incident, after being released from custody on unrelated charges in Lower Sackville.
