Those travelling between Montreal and Toronto will still face inconveniences following the CN freight train that derailed on Sunday near Port Hope, Ontario.
However, Via Rail officials say some service will resume along the route beginning Tuesday.
In a press release, Via Rail said, “beginning Tuesday morning, Via will resume partial train service between Montreal-Kingston and Ottawa-Kingston only. Passengers travelling to/from points west of Kingston (e.g. Toronto) will transfer at Kingston to/from a motor coach.”
The release also said some trains on the affected routes will continue to be replaced by bus service for the entire trip.
"New bookings for travel by train over these two routes (Montreal-Kingston and Ottawa-Kingston only) will now be accepted for travel Tuesday and Wednesday,” it said.
The announcement said tickets for train trips Thursday forward could be reserved as usual.
Regular Montreal – Toronto service is also expected to be restored by Wednesday morning.
Via Rail said all other trains in the Ontario-Quebec corridor are operating normally, including the Montreal-Ottawa route.
Officials with the rail line said buses would bring passengers to the train station on their ticket, but noted there would be delays since bus travel isn’t as fast train travel.
There are usually six daily round-trips between Montreal and Toronto.
