Police investigate after triple slaying in Quebec

SAINT-CROIX, Que. – One man is believed behind three homicides and an attempted murder in two different Quebec towns over the weekend, provincial police said Monday.

A police spokeswoman said a 54-year-old man, taken to hospital in critical condition, is their prime suspect.

The three people that are dead are his 13-year-old daughter, his ex-wife and her new boyfriend.

His 11-year-old daughter remains in critical condition in hospital.

“At first, it was too early to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths, but yesterday our investigators were trying to see if there was a love triangle behind all that,” Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a provincial police spokesperson.

The deaths have rocked the two small towns in the province’s Chaudiere-Appalaches region, a region south of Quebec City.

Bilodeau said the father was not in any condition to meet with investigators.

“We can reassure the population we have the guy we were looking for,” Bilodeau said.

Police have identified the dead found outside a home in St-Croix as Benoit Daigle, 39, and Nancy Samson, 44.

The teenage girl who perished in the home in St-Isidore is Medora Godin, 13.

She and her sister were found in a home, about 70 kilometres from where the first two bodies were discovered.

Their father, the suspect, was also found in the same home.

Autopsies are scheduled to be performed later Monday on the deceased in the hope of confirming the nature of their deaths.

“Traces of violence were found on the bodies,” Bilodeau said.
