City council approves new rapid transit routes

CALGARY – City council has approved a proposal to build seven new rapid transit bus routes throughout Calgary.

The plan is intended to get transit riders to all quadrants of the city faster.

The corridors approved include bus-only lanes along Centre Street and 17th Ave SE.

There will also be Bus Rapid Transit across town in the north and south parts of the city.

Approved transit routes:

1. Centre Street
2. Southeast transitway
3. Southwest transitway
4. 17 Avenue S.E.
5. North crosstown BRT
6. South crosstown BRT
7. Northwest hub

The corridors approved are from the Route Ahead Project.

A timeline for the completion of the project is unclear.
