Union, health regions reach agreement on new contract

REGINA – A five-year agreement has been reached between the Saskatchewan Association of Health Associations Inc. (SAHO), health region employers, and the Service Employees International Union-West (SEIU-West). It has been ratified by all four regional health authorities including Cypress, Five Hills, Heartland and Saskatoon.

“We engaged in the collective bargaining process to reach an agreement that met the needs of the employer, the union and the patients that we serve,” said Bernie Young, interim CEO of SAHO.

The deal will be effective from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2017. Terms include yearly pay increases of 2.0 per cent, 1.5 per cent, 1.5 per cent, 1.55 per cent and 1.95 per cent over the five year agreement.

The new deal also has enhanced severance and retraining options for employees with three or more years of seniority who may have lost their job because it was contracted out.
