Gladstone Secondary students worry about proposed adult education centre

A group of high school students in Vancouver have launched a petition to stop a proposal to move an adult education centre to their school.

The teens at Gladstone Secondary in East Vancouver are concerned about their safety as well as the possible loss of programs because of lost classrooms.

The students say they only learned a week or two ago that a wing of their school could house classes for adults during the day while 13-18 year olds are also in school.

Vancouver School Board chair Patti Bacchus says it’s far from a done deal and that their fears will be addressed.

The school was chosen because it has space and because of its proximity to Skytrain.

Students say they don’t think the proposal will work and the questions they have asked so far have not been answered. The school board says precedent has been set elsewhere and the results have been positive.
