REGINA – Have you ever seen a car’s vanity licence plate and wondered, what on earth was that driver thinking?
There are over 3,000 licence plate requests that did not make it through SGI’s approval process. People have tried to get naughty-body parts, advertisements, and drug or alcohol references, but no matter how they are spelled, they will be rejected.
“People like to get creative,” said Kelley Brinkworth, SGI spokesperson.

SGI looks at each application on an individual basis. An example Brinkworth used was “TOPLESS.” She says at first glance you would reject it because it has a sexual connotation, but if the person drives a convertible, it changes the meaning entirely.
In the past, SGI has approved some plates only to discover they have a hidden meaning.
“If someone has an issue with your licence plate down the road, they can send in a written complaint to us and we will review the case and we could actually ask for that back,” said Brinkworth.

79,840 Saskatchewan motorists have a personalized plate. They cost $75 dollars, but choose carefully or be prepared to wind up with whatever SGI assigns you at random.
