Gmail up and running for most users after outage

UPDATE: Gmail appears to be working again for most users; however, Google’s app status dashboard is still showing a service disruption status for Gmail.

TORONTO – Google’s email service Gmail appears to be down in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Reports of a widespread outage began flooding social media around 2:00 p.m. ET Friday.

“We’re investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly,” Google’s app status dashboard.

Many users are reporting seeing a “Temporary error” code (500), while some are reporting they can access their inboxes but receive a message that reads, “Gmail is temporarily unable to access your Contacts.”

The outage also appears to be affecting Google+.

But users aren’t taking the outage lightly on social media – #Gmail is currently trending on Twitter in Canada as users take to other social networks to react.
