Man found guilty in hit-and-run that killed 10-year-old

CALGARY- The man accused in a hit-and-run that killed a 10-year-old girl has been found guilty of all charges in the case.

Eleasha Wesley died in May 2012, after her family’s car was hit from behind on the Trans-Canada Highway just outside Calgary city limits. The driver of the van that hit them fled the scene, but police tracked him down in Cochrane three weeks later.

Fergus Hunter, who was 19 at the time, was charged with dangerous driving causing death and fleeing the scene of a fatal crash.

That was not his first brush with the law. Hunter was out on bail when the crash happened, after being charged in connection with a brawl on the Morley reserve. It was alleged that he got into a van and ran several people over, leading to a string of charges including impaired driving causing bodily harm.
