Glass on Apple’s New York City ‘Cube’ store shattered during storm

TORONTO – If you thought a shattered iPhone screen was a sad sight, wait until you see what happened to Apple’s iconic New York City “Cube” store after Tuesday’s winter storm.

A glass panel on the structure shattered after a snow blower reportedly struck the side of the cube on Fifth Avenue. The store – which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week – will remain open despite the damage, a store representative told Buzzfeed.

According to a report by Apple news site 9 to 5 Mac, the single panel could cost the tech retailer approximately US$450,000 to replace.

The 32-foot cube was said to be designed by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. It was opened in 2006 and has become one of Apple’s most iconic retail locations.
