PENTICTON — The Canadian Olympic Committee has announced the members of the freestyle ski team it’s sending to Sochi and two Okanagan athletes are on the list including Penticton’s Matt Margetts.
He went on a crowd-sourced fundraising website, successfully seeking donations to fund his competition travel expenses.
The 2014 games is where halfpipe makes its debut and Margetts’ father couldn’t be prouder.
“I spoke with Matt last night and I spoke with him this morning, we’ve been back and forth on the phone. And now, it’s a little bit more real. It is just exciting all around,” says Richard Margetts.
Another name to make the Olympic roster is Vernon’s Justin Dorey.
He joins Margetts on the halfpipe team.
Earlier this month, both men made the podium at the world cup freestyle halfpipe event in Calgary.
