MONTREAL – People living in Central Canada need not worry if they see screaming fighter jets flying overhead in pursuit of a small plane Thursday morning.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command says it will conduct exercise flights from mid-to-late morning over southern Quebec and eastern Ontario.
It says people living west of Montreal and east of Ottawa may hear or see NORAD-controlled fighter jets in close proximity to a C-21 U.S. Air Force plane.
The Air Force’s website describes the C-21 as a military version of a Lear business jet.
In a news release from Peterson Air Force base in Colorado, the defense command says the exercise is designed to practice intercept and identification procedures.
It will also include the airspace over northeastern Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
