B.C.’s first baby of 2025 came into the world at 12:02 a.m. at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Little Emerson is the first child born to parents Jordan (Forrest-Drezet) Hill and Elijah Hill. He weighed seven pounds and 10 ounces.

Mom Jordan said she was labouring at home and came to the hospital twice to get morphine before returning to the hospital on New Year’s Eve, giving birth shortly after midnight.

“It was a long day, to say the least,” she said.

“I didn’t know what to expect, given it was our first baby but it went well.”

Jordan and Elijah said the staff at the hospital were fantastic.

Emerson was a few days early, originally due on Jan. 3, but both parents said everything worked out for the best.

They said they were surprised and delighted that Emerson was the New Year’s baby.

“Luckily he came out right at 12:02 and we were really happy,” Elijah said.

Jordan said she is feeling well but Emerson did spend some time in the NICU due to low blood sugar levels but overall he is healthy.

“We have a lot of help from our families and from his sisters, who all have kids, so we’ve leaned on them a little bit and trying to be the best prepared as we can,” Jordan said.
