ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – An animal welfare group in Newfoundland says charitable collection boxes have been stolen from three different veterinary clinics.

Heavenly Creatures co-founder and president Jessica Rendell says she got calls about the thefts from two clinics in St. John’s and one in Mount Pearl.

Rendell estimates between the three hospitals, her group alone is out a few hundred dollars, money crucial for feeding and caring for homeless pets.

Melissa Stevens of Sunrise Animal Hospital says staff figure whoever took four boxes from the counter distracted them.

The boxes were tied together and weighted down.

She says the clinic will make sure someone is at the front desk all the time now in the busy facility.
