Health Canada issues recall for WD-40 products with ‘Smart Straw’

Health Canada has issued a recall for some WD-40 products because they’re not packaged in legally required child-proof containers.

The containers affected have either blue and yellow packaging or black, brown and red packaging.

The products being recalled are:

  • WD-40 multi-use product with “Smart Straw, 226 g, item number 01058, UPC 061536010581
  • WD-40 multi-use product with “Smart Straw, 325 g, item number 01053, UPC 061536010536
  • 3-in-One garage door lubricant with “Smart Straw”, 331 g, item number 01043, UPC 061536010437

The agency says the products could be dangerous to children as they contain ingredients that are hazardous, which could cause serious injuries if inhaled.

In total, Health Canada estimates 2.6 million units have been sold in Canada since 2006.

Customers are being asked to place the products in a safe place away from children and to contact the company by phone at 1-866-210-0538 or on its website to receive a free gift card by providing the information found on the container.

The recall does not apply to WD-40 aerosol products with a red cap and removable straw.
