UPDATE: CTrain service down between Crowfoot and Dalhousie until Monday

CALGARY – Calgary Transit says it could be Monday before service returns to normal at Crowfoot station.

Hundreds of commuters who use the transit hub to get to work were forced to take shuttle buses instead of a CTrain on Wednesday, after a bizarre incident the day before.

Electrical wires along the LRT track fell down on Tuesday afternoon, wrapping around a train near the Crowfoot station.

The mishap left a number of passengers stranded on the train for more than an hour.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Due to the wire damage, CTrain service between Dalhousie and Crowfoot stations will be suspended all day Wednesday, January 15.

They are, however, using shuttle buses to providing service to both Crowfoot and Dalhousie bus loops.

Crews say they are working on a temporary solution that will allow a CTrain shuttle to run on a single track between the two stations while repairs are being made.

This temporary CTrain shuttle will run on Thursday and Friday. The shuttle train will result in a shorter trip than bus. It will also ensure that train frequency along the rest of the line is maintained.

On Saturday and Sunday, shuttle bus service will be in place between Crowfoot and Dalhousie Stations.

Calgary Transit says they are working to determine what caused the wire to fall, but say the damage it caused is extensive.
