Police are recommending charges against a Salmon Arm man following a violent altercation at the city landfill that sent one woman to hospital.
It is one of two “dump rage” incidents in recent months that are prompting local officials to ramp up security measures.
The dump closes at 4 pm, but those hours were a little too early for one dump user last week.
The 57-year-old man was told the dump was closed but unloaded his vehicle anyway.
Attendant Debbie Dystant was in the process of closing the gate to the dump when the man drove his vehicle into the gate.
Dystant was injured by the gate.
She spent some time in the hospital and has not returned to work.
The employee has hired a lawyer but is not commenting on the incident.
Dystant was also injured in a similar incident three months ago.
Police are recommending the man be charged with assault with a weapon.
Meanwhile the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) has banned him from the facility for one year.
The CSRD is asking attendants not to confront angry customers and is making sure someone is posted at the gate during closing time to make sure no one can get in after hours.
