A cargo aircraft slid off the edge of Runway 13 at Regina International Airport, causing multiple delays.

It happened just after 5 p.m. Friday. There were only two people on board, and no injuries are reported.

The extent of the damage to the aircraft is still unknown.

Regina Airport Authority VP of Operations, Steve Burchi, says the incident happened during landing. He says the plane exited off the runway and ended up approximately 300 feet off the runway.

Runway 13 was closed until the aircraft was removed. Other runways were closed for approximately three hours due to heavy fog. Everything is reopened now, but there are still some flight cancellations and delays being posted.

Travelers are being asked to double check their flight information before heading out.

Burchi says the cause of the crash is now under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board.

“The Safety Board has interviewed the pilots,” he said.  “They’ll make a determination as to what happened and certainly will be looking at factors like runway conditions, weather, visibility and human factors as well.”

“What I can say is I do know based on our own investigation that the runway condition was not an issue with this particular incident,” said Burchi.

The incident is very similar to a plane accident that happened at the Saskatoon Airport on Thursday.
