Hour-long truck chase in Mascouche ends with arrest

MONTREAL – A 25-year-old man faces multiple charges after leading three different police forces in a high-speed truck chase north of Montreal early Thursday morning.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., Mascouche municipal police officers observed the attempted theft of a Ford pickup truck with an attached trailer.

They gave chase for nearly an hour, pursuing the alleged thief along Highway 25 and Highway 640, with speeds reaching an estimated 130 to 150 kilometres an hour.

Officers from Terrebonne municipal force and Quebec’s provincial police also tried to stop the driver.

After avoiding several nail beds, the driver’s luck ran out when he ran over a belt of spikes in Mascouche.

Undeterred, the young man then tried to escape on foot, but he was caught and taken into custody.

A spokesperson confirmed that he was known to police.
