SASKATOON – A family friend of Johnathon Vetter, the 5-year-old boy allegedly killed by his mother, has set up a memorial fund to help pay for his funeral.

Friends gathered at the crime scene today to lay balloons, teddy bears and messages of condolence to a boy who has been described as fearless and daring.

An obituary says Jonathan idolized his brother Jordan and followed him everywhere; he loved playing with cars and video games.

Friend of the family Jamie Quillinan set up the trust fund to help with funeral costs.

“Regardless of whether they do or do not have the funds themselves, I know a lot of people who have been thinking about ways that they can help out,” said Quillinan.

“They can go to any local Scotia Bank and just quote ‘In trust for Johnathan Vetter’ and say it’s at the Westgate Scotia Bank,” she added.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at the Saskatoon Funeral Home.

The family would prefer donations to the Children’s Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers.

They have also asked people to hug a child and let them know they are loved in Jonathan’s memory.
