The current height limit for structures in the area is eight storeys.

City administration has recommended the project be allowed to go ahead with 24 storeys and a front yard of 48 feet (about 15 metres) off Waterfront Drive.

Around 40 people packed the Winnipeg City Hall gallery for their chance to speak about the plan at the downtown development committee meeting Monday morning.

Many are opposed to the plan and  filed the appeal with the city because they say the proposed height is too tall for the area.
