Man charged in Edmonton’s first homicide of 2014

EDMONTON – Homicide detectives have charged a 36-year-old man in connection with what police have now confirmed to be the city’s first homicide of 2014.

Just after 8:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day, police were called to the Alta Vista condo development located at 103 Avenue and 111 Street.

When police arrived, they found a 52-year-old man on whom they performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The man was rushed to hospital, where he died a short time later.

The victim has been identified as Allan Douglas Waquan. An autopsy was conducted on Friday, but officers say the cause of death is pending toxicology results.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has now charged Perry Kenowekesequape with manslaughter. The 36-year-old has been taken into custody until Thursday, Jan. 9, when he is expected to appear in court.
