Alberta man admits to string of Saskatchewan vehicle thefts

SASKATOON – A man from Alberta has pleaded guilty to several vehicle theft charges after police caught him trying to steal a truck from a dealership in Humboldt, Sask.

Darcy Blayne Pahl, 46, pleaded guilty to four counts in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Thursday.

It all started with a truck stolen from outside of a home in Humboldt, where police found footprints belonging to a particular brand of shoe.

Around the same time, people staying at one of the town’s hotels also noticed that their RV and trailer were missing from the parking lot.

Police received another complaint on Dec. 17 about an RV and trailer stolen from the John Deere dealership in Humboldt, where the same shoeprint was found at the scene.

The next morning, RCMP got a call about a large truck stuck in the ditch outside K.M.K Sales Ltd. in Humboldt.

Officers arrested Pahl, who was inside, and connected him to the RV thefts after the dealership confirmed the truck he was caught in had been taken from the lot.

Pahl also admitted trying to steal three others by smashing in their windows.

The Crown said another truck stolen from Farm World was found abandoned in Humboldt later that day. It appeared to have hit a deer.

Court heard that Pahl, who is from Calgary and has a wife and two children, has a lengthy criminal record spanning 30 years.
