26-storey balcony victim identified

UPDATE: Global News has confirmed the identity of the 19-year-old woman who fell to her death from a highrise apartment building in Surrey. She is Maurine Arogie and also goes by Maurine Rinny.

Friends tell us she was a really nice, loving person.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is taking conduct of the case involving the suspicious death of a 19-year-old woman after an early morning fall from a highrise apartment building in Surrey.

Just after 1 a.m. police responded to a domestic disturbance between the woman and a 23-year-old male in the 13000 block of 100 Avenue in Surrey. As police were approaching the building they witnessed the woman falling from the upper stories of an apartment building. The 19-year-old fell 26 floors to her death.

The 23-year-old male was arrested the same day and later released on January 2. No charges have been laid in the incident. According to IHIT the police have been to the suite before in relation to the couple.

“We have gotten cooperation from one person who was inside,” said Dan Splinter, Surrey RCMP. “We believe there were more people inside at the time and would like to speak to them.”

The forensic team has been called to the scene and RCMP will continue to investigate the woman’s death.

Police are asking anyone who may have any information or witnessed this incident to contact the Surrey RCMP.
