REGINA – Saskatchewan’s environment ministry is sticking by its recommendation that residential development near industry should be minimized.

The Ministry had previously voiced its concern about how close the planned Somerset development would be to the Federated Co-Operatives refinery in Regina, and to the Evraz steel mill.

An explosion at the refinery last week has revived some concerns.

Ministry spokesperson Ash Olesen says the less residential development there is, the less opportunity there is for noise, odour and safety impacts.
