SASKATOON – Saskatoon’s John G. Diefenbaker International Airport experienced a power surge on Saturday forcing the use of standby generators.
At 6:30 p.m., a power surge resulted in the post-security side of the airport going to emergency standby power.
Some arriving flights were delayed on Saturday as the power surge affected a number of bridges All bridges are now operational.
There were no delays caused by the power issue on Sunday and flights are on schedule.

Currently, all essential power is on but some customer conveniences such as food and beverage services are significantly reduced in post-security.
Saskatoon Airport Authority’s manager of customer and terminal services Maxine Montgomery says crews responded to this rare situation well, even while compounded by the holiday rush and frigid temperatures.
“If you were a traveller going through the airport, you probably wouldn’t realize that we were operating under standby generators. We continue to operate as we troubleshoot the problem,” said Montgomery.
Montgomery added that safe operations were the top priority and travellers’ patience is much appreciated.
Everything is expected to be back to normal on Monday.
The cause of the power surge is unknown and the airport is working with SaskPower to find out exactly what happened.
