A 49-year-old man is facing several charges in relation to an incident that prompted an emergency alert earlier this week in the Halifax area.
On Tuesday, an emergency alert notified residents that a “dangerous man armed with a firearm” was in the Gaston Road area of Dartmouth.
In an update on Thursday, Halifax Regional Police said the man, named David John Campbell, was arrested without incident after turning himself into police on Wednesday night.
Campbell has been charged with assault, uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death, and failing to comply with conditions of a probation order.
In the initial release following the incident on Tuesday, Halifax Regional Police said they responded to a report of a man with a firearm who was threatening people known to him in the Gaston Road area around 9:20 a.m.
“The man fled the area on foot before police arrived. Police searched the area and were not able to locate the suspect,” police said.
Police said an emergency alert was sent “out of an abundance of caution” as it was believed the suspect was in possession of a firearm at the time.
Campbell is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Thursday.
