A 23-year-old woman has died in an accident Friday night near Golden.
At about 8 p.m. MST, Golden RCMP Traffic Services were called to a collision on Highway 1 about 5 km west of Golden. Police say an eastbound SUV lost control, crossed over into the westbound lane and was broadsided by a pickup truck. The 23-year-old, who was driving the SUV, was pronounced dead on scene.
A female passenger in the truck was transported to Golden General Hospital by ambulance and was later transferred to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
The Trans Canada Highway was closed for four hours, reopening around midnight last night.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
“This is a very busy time of year on local highways and road conditions can change very quickly,” says Cst.AJ Brunner with the Golden RCMP Traffic Services. “Please give yourself extra time when making your travel plans and get everyone home safe.”
RCMP say they will not be releasing the name of the deceased.
