TORONTO – The Playtex Hip Hammock infant carrier is being recalled in Canada and the United States over concern the buckles can break, causing the child to fall out.

The joint recall, between Health Canada, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Playtex, involves the infant carrier with the model number 05306.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to this recall, however there have been 83 reports of buckles breaking or cracking in the U.S., including two reports which resulted in injuries.

Playtex said it has received four reports of buckles breaking or cracking.

Approximately 36,000 units were sold in Canada, and 305,000 were sold in the U.S.

The recall affects products sold in Canada from June 2004 to January 2010.

Customers with a recalled carrier should stop using it and contact Playtex for a full refund at 1-800-522-8230 or on the company’s website.
