Eight people have been arrested and 20 firearms, $100,000 in cash and just short of 100 kilograms of cocaine were seized by authorities on Wednesday, according to Montreal police.
The major drug and arms trafficking operation, led by the Montreal Police (SPVM) organized crime unit, took place in Montreal, Toronto, Longueuil and Châteauguay.
Police said in a release on Thursday that the 97 kilograms of cocaine seized is worth about $2.5 million.
Of the firearms, 19 were handguns and one was a submachine gun.
Officers seized another 66 “prohibited Glock switch devices.” Glock switches are small illegally imported or 3D printed devices that amplify the impact of gun violence by converting a Glock handgun from semi-automatic to fully automatic, according to the RCMP.
Authorities say 26 kilograms of MDMA and 600,000 methamphetamine tablets were also taken in the bust.
The SPVM collaborated with the Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Of the eight suspects arrested, seven were men and one was a woman. They are all between the ages of 24 and 35.
Seven of them appeared in court on Thursday and are facing charges related to drug possession and trafficking.
Officials say they are being held in police custody pending further court proceedings.
