TORONTO – The Salvation Army can ring its kettle bells at Toronto’s Eaton Centre once again.

It is the first time in eight years the charity will be allowed to do so at one of the city’s biggest shopping centres.

The kettle bells were silenced after shopkeepers at the mall complained about the noise and said it was driving away customers.

The issue came to the public’s attention last week.

The charity and Cadillac Fairview announced Sunday they have reached a deal to allow kettle bells to ring at all of the company’s shopping centres during the holidays.

Susan Allen, general manager of the Eaton Centre, said the change is being made because the public supported the return of the bells.

Captain John Murray, spokesperson for The Salvation Army, said "The non-ringing of the bells was really never an issue."
