Police investigate ‘suspicious’ death of man in southwest Calgary

UPDATE: On March 22, police provided an update on their investigation and said an autopsy determined the cause of death was non-criminal.

A person has been taken into police custody in connection with the death of a man in southwest Calgary on Sunday evening.

Police confirmed to Global News that officers responded to the 200 block of Shawcliffe Circle Southwest in the Shawnessy neighbourhood at about 7:15 p.m. after someone called about a man being in medical distress.

When officers arrived, they found an injured 56-year-old man who needed to be taken to hospital where he later died.

Police said the man’s death has been deemed “suspicious” and that homicide detectives are now investigating.

“An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Friday,” police said in a news release. “Until the completion of the autopsy, no further information can be shared.”

Police said anyone with information about what happened should call them at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
