Niagara Regional Police say the double shooting happened during an argument just after 6:30 a.m. Monday in a Crystal Beach parking lot near Derby and Rebstock roads.

Investigators believe the incident is tied to a dispute over aluminum cans collected from bins in a residential neighbourhood.

At one point detectives think one of the men hit another with a wooden bat then drew a handgun and fired multiple shots at the individual.

As the victim attempted to escape in a car driven by a female, police say more shots were fired into that vehicle striking the driver.

The suspect left the scene in a Dodge minivan but later surrendered to police after returning to the scene of the shooting.

Both victims, in their 40s, suffered serious injuries, according to NRPS.
