EDMONTON – The City’s third parking ban of the season was lifted Monday afternoon, after being put in place Saturday morning.
As of 3 p.m., vehicles are once again permitted to park on signed bus/collector routes.
By the end of Sunday, bylaw officers had issued 1080 $50 tickets to people who did not comply with this last parking ban.
The City says an announcement about the neighbourhood blading cycle will be made this week.
Meanwhile, complaints are being heard about the windrows along bus routes, with residents wondering if they will be removed. The City indicates that will have to wait.
“We had removed the snow on the major bridges, but we’re noting that there is a build up again.”

All the snow has been hard on the city’s snow removal budget, which is estimated to come to $60 million for 2013.

“I would say we’re going to be in the range of $10 million over budget,” said the city’s director of roadway maintenance, Bob Dunford. “To the end of last week, we’ve moved over 300,000 cubic metres of snow off the roads already to our snow sites – that’s a lot more than we normally would this time of year.”
But Ward 1 Councillor Andrew Knack says taxpayers shouldn’t be worried.
“They were projecting a bit of a surplus this year, so that might just eliminate that additional surplus. But that won’t go to effect any tax rates or anything like that.”
He adds that Council will be reviewing the city’s snow policy in the coming year.
“We’ll have a serious talk about the service levels that people expect, and to what degree are people willing to pay for that?”
