Snow squall watch ends for northern parts of GTA

WATCH: Snow squall near Highway 400 in Port Severn.

TORONTO – Environment Canada says a snow squall watch has ended for areas north of the Greater Toronto Area Friday morning.

The areas which were originally under the watch included York, Durham, Barrie, Orillia, Dufferin-Innisfil, Grey-Bruce, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Waterloo.

Huron and Perth remains under the watch.

The flurries were expected to be heavy at times with local snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm.

Snow squalls affected these regions early this morning, especially as a cold front pushes southwards across the regions.

Environment Canada says “a cold front will sink southward across regions southeast of Georgian Bay early this morning. Snow squalls are expected to end in the wake of the front as winds become northeasterly later this morning.”

Motorists should be prepared for sudden very low visibilities in snow and blowing snow.

All buses to schools in City of Kawartha Lakes for Trillium Lakelands District School Board.

Buses to  St. John’s (Kirkfield), St. Mary’s, St. Dominic, St. Luke’s and Pope John Paul Elementary schools and St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in City of Kawartha Lakes.
