Calgary police have laid charges against 17 people after recovering more than 50 stolen bicycles.

Some were worth as much as $5,000.

The two month investigation over the summer focused on bike thefts downtown and in the Beltline, two areas that saw a jump in thefts following the June floods.

Police believe many bike thefts aren’t reported and are encouraging Calgarians to report them.

Right now they have more than 250 bikes recovered city-wide that haven’t been returned to their owners.
