SYDNEY, N.S. – A daily, non-stop flight from Cape Breton to Toronto takes off next Wednesday.

Air Canada announced the new service out of the Sydney airport in August.

On Tuesday, the airline’s vice-president for regional markets met with the Sydney and Area Board of Trade to talk about the flight.

Kevin Howlett says the airline is confident the local economy can support the new service.

Doug Peach, chairman of the airport’s board, says it marks a milestone in the city’s growth.

Mayor Cecil Clarke of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality says access to the island will be improved for anyone coming for any number of tourism or business events.

The early morning service will offer 50 seats to Toronto and make a return trip back to Cape Breton around suppertime.
