Caregivers charged with assaulting and poisoning St-Lambert senior

LONGUEUIL – They started the year as health-care employees at the St-Lambert-Sur-Le-Golf seniors’ residence on Montreal’s south shore.

They’re ending the year locked up in prison.

On Tuesday, two female caregivers, 46-year-old Marie-Margaret Petime and 51-year-old Immacula Eugene, were charged in court with physically abusing 87-year-old Denise Beaulieu.

The victim was allegedly assaulted and poisoned last July.

According to the charge sheet, the two employees “tortured” the senior with “a dangerous substance”.

The 87-year-old suffered from Alzheimer’s.

Police won’t say what the substance was but they say the alleged acts were captured on video by surveillance cameras.

Denise Beaulieu passed away July 20.

For now, the caregivers are not charged with causing the woman’s death.

Police say the investigation is “ongoing.”

The suspects are facing multiple counts of drug trafficking and administering a noxious substance.

Eugene also faces a count of aggravated assault.

The suspects return to court Thursday for a bail hearing.
