Neo-Nazi sentenced to life in prison after random killing

CALGARY – A white supremacist found guilty of murdering a man in a random attack three years ago has been sentenced.

In November, a jury convicted Robert Reitmeier of second-degree murder in the death of Mark Mariani. The 37-year-old was viciously attacked and suffered a brutal beating while in the alley behind a northwest strip mall in October of 2010.

During the trial, it was suggested Mariani had likely wandered into the alley to empty an ostomy bag he wore for medical reasons. He didn’t know his two attackers, but encountered them while they were painting graffiti.

On Tuesday, Reitmeier was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years.

Reitmeier’s associate Tyler Sturrup had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his role in the death, and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for ten years.
