High-profile Calgary gang members involved in jailhouse brawl

Calgary police and Alberta’s Solicitor General are investigating a brawl at Calgary’s Remand Centre that involved at least two well-known gang members.

An inmate was stabbed Sunday night during a fight that involved at least five inmates, including notorious Calgary gangster Nathan Zuccherato.

Zuccherato is behind bars while he waits for a new trial in connection with the Bolsa restaurant triple murder in 2009. He was originally convicted of three counts of first-degree murder but a new trial has since been ordered on the original charges as well as three additional charges of first-degree murder.

The weekend brawl at the Remand Centre involved another Calgary gang member charged in the Bolsa case, Nicholas Chan.

Police won’t confirm whether the fight was over gang affiliations.

“Our folks in the Remand Centre are very careful about keeping known gang members apart from each other,” says Kevin Brookwell of the Calgary Police Service.
