WW2 veteran turns 100

He is one of the oldest war veterans in the Okanagan valley and on Saturday, George Ferguson from Summerland turns 100.

For the past 20 years, the World War 2 veteran has been raising the flag at Summerland’s Remembrance Day ceremonies.

He expects to do the same this year, though he admits it may also be his last.

In 1941, when he was 31 years old, Ferguson decided to serve in World War 2.

At the time, he says he was considered too old for overseas combat.

After the war, Ferguson joined the military police in Vancouver as its head cook.

He and his wife Flora then moved to Summerland in 1967, where they bought a motel.

At nearly 100 years old, Ferguson still lives on his own.

He plans to celebrate the special occasion at his home surrounded by family and friends.
