A Calgary man will stand trial on a first-degree murder charge in the strangulation death of his teenage stepdaughter early this year. Bradley Wade Rietze, 46, was committed to trial following a three-day preliminary hearing.

He was charged after Brittney McInnes, 17, was found dead in her southwest home on Jan. 18.

Crown prosecutor Susan Pepper called eight witnesses during the abbreviated hearing, to determine if there is sufficient evidence to go to trial.

Details of the hearing before provincial court Judge George Gaschler cannot be reported because of a court-ordered publication ban.

Rietze is accused of killing McInnes, who was found dead after police were called twice to the home on Canaveral Crescent S.W. on Jan. 18.

Rietze has been in custody since being arrested Jan. 21 and charged with killing the girl, a Grade 12 student at Dr. E.P.
