TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford has been included in TIME magazine’s top 10 apologies of the year, coming in at number two, just before Paula Deen’s apology for using a racist slur.
TIME magazine honoured Toronto’s mayor for his apology for smoking crack and the series of mea culpas that followed.
The mayor admitted to smoking crack cocaine on November 5 after baiting a crush of reporters outside of his office to ask him whether he’s used the drug.
His admission came approximately 6 months after the Toronto Star and Gawker first reported he had been captured in a video smoking what might be crack cocaine.
The article continues: “But the mea culpas didn’t end there: in the aftermath of the revelation, he ended up having to apologize for making obscene comments about his wife at a presser and for knocking down a city councillor after the Toronto City Council voted to strip him of his governing powers.”
Ford apologized in council for accidentally knocking Councillor Pam McConnell over.

The mayor’s string of apologies came in at a higher number than several other high-profile apologies including Barack Obama’s apparent flip-flop on some of the effects of the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare), 60 Minutes’ recent retraction of their blundered story on the Benghazi attack and Alec Baldwin’s apparent “vow to not use homophobic slurs.”
