Saskatoon saw its first snowfall overnight with roads being a little slick Tuesday morning.

But the city says road crews are applying de-icer, with sanders focused on main roads like Circle Drive.

Despite that, Saskatoon Police Service said it has responded to several collisions this morning as a result of the icy conditions.

The city is warning about the icy conditions and reminding drivers to take their time on the road and leave extra room during their commute.

The city said the process of spreading salt across all priority streets takes roughly 12 hours and they didn’t have enough time to complete all roads by the time commuters hit the streets.

“Crews focused on Circle drive and other high-speed streets, as these are the streets where collisions due to icy conditions have the potential to be the most serious,” said Goran Saric, Director of Roadways, Fleet and Support. “Bridge decks were also an area of focus.”

The city added icy conditions could be back for Wednesday morning’s commute, but city crews will be out monitoring the conditions.
