TORONTO – Ontario consumers will be eligible for government incentives to make their homes more energy efficient under the Liberal government’s long-term energy plan, which the Opposition has already labelled a pre-election strategy.
Part of the plan, which will be unveiled this afternoon, includes what the government calls “on-bill financing for energy efficiency retrofits” starting in 2015.

Up front financing would be provided for the home renovations and the ratepayer would pay the money back over time through their hydro bill.
The Progressive Conservatives say the Liberals’ long-term energy plan will mean hydro rates will keep going up, hurting job creation.
PC Leader Tim Hudak says the Liberals’ generous subsidies for green energy and their decisions to spend $1.1 billion to cancel two gas plants helped drive up electricity rates and cost Ontario 300,000 manufacturing jobs.
He says it’s time for the New Democrats to stop propping up the minority Liberal government and help trigger a general election.
