At about 5 a.m., police said officers were called to a weapons complaint at a building in the area of 156 Street and 100 Avenue. They found a woman who had sustained life-threatening injuries.

Police said paramedics arrived and tried to save the woman’s life but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family identified the deceased as Winterstar Dion, a mother to a seven-year-old girl.

“She was a good girl,” Belinda Dion, the victim’s mother, said. “She was only 23 and she had a whole life ahead of her and now she’s gone. She had a heart of gold.”
