On October 1st, 2022 Global Peace Alliance BC (GPA) will celebrate its ten years since it was formed by community leaders in Surrey! Our vision is a world of peace where humans celebrate their diversity, respect their common values, and resolve their conflict by non-violent means. We collaborate with many other organization in BC and across Canada under the Canada Social Justice and Peace Network. We have and continue to demand for an end to wars, military escalation and nuclear weapons which threaten our planet. We invite you to attend “Our yearly “Give Peace a Chance” festival for the International Day of Peace, which this year follows the UN’s theme: “End Racism, Build Peace”. We are very excited to invite you to the Bell Centre of Arts, a beautiful venue An exciting multicultural show awaits including stimulating, knowledgeable speakers and activists who discuss world conflict, foreign policy and a better future of our planet. Our keynote speaker is Kachina Melinda Bige, from Kwantlen Nation and the Indigenous Chair at Kwantlen University. She will speak to the Intersections of Truth and Reconciliation and Anti-Racist Action towards Peace. Other excellent speakers are Political Science Professor Emeritus, Peter Pronzos from Langara and Chuka Ejeckam from the think tank, Canadian Center of Policy Alternatives. A panel will continue with emphasis on solutions to ending Racism and what each one of us can do to make our communities safe, thriving and loving. An all-age, peace themed art exhibit, community tables, children’s activities, savoury treats and much more awaits. Don’t miss this important, informative as well as entertaining family event. Together we can build a culture of Peace! Part of the festival is the ART4Peace (Art and Literary) Contest 2022 now waiting for your entries!The art exhibit and recognition will take place at the GPA Peace Festival. It’s a literary (prose, poetry, drama) and visual arts (drawing, painting, photography, video, sculpting) contest for all ages, divided into four age groups: 5-12 years, 13-17 years, 18-64 years, and 65 years or more. Themes such as ending racism,healing our planet from conflict, love, friendship, family, forgiveness, kindness, equality, demilitarization, all are acceptable. All participants receive a Certificate of Appreciation, and the best three in each art category in each age group also receive a cash prize and a trophy.Be a peacemaker today.
