Dear friends, We are ecstatic to welcome back violinist Yuel Yawney and pianist Libby Yu to Music Friends. This time they will be joined by acclaimed cellist Sung Yong Lim, Yuel’s colleague from the award-winning Borealis String Quartet. You’ll be enthralled by the experience of hearing three of Vancouver’s finest artists up close in this very special evening. Yuel and Sungyong will open the evening with a duo for violin and cello by Beethoven, and then Yuel and Libby will pair up to present Brahms’ intense and brooding Violin Sonata No. 3, and then all three of them will conclude the evening together with Mendelssohn’s iconic Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor! The exact location will be revealed in the Order Confirmation email. — Date: Saturday, December 7 — Show Time: 7:30 PM — Tickets ($30-35, including complimentary wine and snacks): https://www.mymusicfriends.com/concert/83 ===Yuel Yawney, violin=== Praised for his “confident, smooth toned, and unobtrusive virtuosic” playing Yuel Yawney has performed extensively across North America, Europe and Asia performing in major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Taipei, Shanghai, Beijing, Toronto, San Francisco, Washington DC, Montreal, Ottawa and, of course, in his home town of Vancouver. ===Sungyong Lim, cello=== Cellist, Sungyong Lim, graduated with honors from the renowned Yewon School and the Seoul School of the Arts before entering the Korea National University of Arts. During his university studies, he decided to advance his musical education in Europe. Accepted by the Detmold Musik Hochschule in Germany, he earned a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, a konzertexamen’s degree in cello performance. Sungyong graduated at the top of his class, with a comprehensive performance repertoire and with considerable teaching experience. ===Libby Yu, piano=== Vancouver pianist Libby Yu is recognized as an accomplished performer, collaborator, teacher and adjudicator. She began her early studies with Phyllis Taylor and Edward Parker and then studied extensively with Lee Kum-Sing at both the Vancouver Academy of Music and at the University of British Columbia, where she earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance. Libby captured the First Prize of the 27th CBC Radio National Competition for Young Performers and Second Place in the Eckhardt-Gramatte Competition for Canadian Music. She came to international recognition when she was awarded a Diploma of Honour at the 13th International Frederic Chopin Competition held in Warsaw, Poland.
