Good evening, The Calgary Canucks Jr A Hockey Club of the AJHL are honoring Coach Don Phelps and his 25 year legacy as a Canucks Coach. He is currently the Assistant Manager of the McMahon Stadium, home of the Calgary Stampeders. As a Coach for the Canucks, Don coached over 1000 games, logging 775 wins with the Canucks. He led the team to 1 National Championship, 5 League Championships, and 11 League Championship rounds. During his tenure, he was named AJHL Coach of the Year three times. He retired in 2011 holding the record in all of Canada for the most wins as a Junior A coach. In addition to his impressive coaching resume, Phelps founded what he called the Major Midget League. Today, it’s known as the Alberta Major Midget League providing an elite hockey experience to AAA players across the province. He was named a “Builder” in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. Throughout his coaching career, Coach Phelps was passionate about helping and influencing players to better themselves off the ice by sending his players into the community to volunteer. In honoring him this weekend, we are collecting non-perishable items from the Calgary Ronald McDonald Wishlist in exchange for $5OFF each game ticket sold. We will have a table at the rink all afternoon for those who are interested in simply donating to the Ronald McDonald House. The Calgary location was able to help over 300 families throughout Southern Alberta while their children received life-saving treatments through the Children’s Hospital. All items collected on October 27th will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House on behalf of Don Phelps and the Calgary Canucks.
