Western WorldVancouver TheatreSports’™ improvisers will demonstrate their lightning fast wit as they play the ‘Hosts’ to our audience ‘Guests’ in Western World – an improvised parody inspired by the popular TV series Westworld. Opens April 6 and runs through to May 13, 2017 Each night features a totally new ‘episode’ under the watchful eye and guiding mind of Robert (sometimes Roberta) Ford. Guests begin their Western World adventure with an orientation. “Who are these hosts? What roles do they play?” are just some of the many questions that only VTSL’s esteemed Guests can answer. Throughout the show Guests help craft the storyline that becomes the basis for the second half of the show. In this artificial world of improvised comedy anything can, and will, happen. If things get too out of hand, Ford can always step in with “Stop all motor functions” and hit the reset button. Even if you have never seen Westworld, VTSL’s Western World will be filled with enough western movie clichés and quick-thinking action to ensure an evening of ‘laughs without limits.’ComedyApr 6 - May 13

Long DivisionPi Theatre presents a refreshed remount of Peter Dickinson’s otherworldly and resonant Long Division, April 26 – 30, 2017 at the Annex Theatre (823 Seymour Street). Directed by Richard Wolfe, with choreography by Lesley Telford and musical score by Owen Belton, the intellectually-charged, emotionally-gripping work combines multimedia and physical theatre to explore the mathematics of human connection. The story revolves around seven characters who are inextricably linked by a sequence of tragic events. Through excursions into number theory, geometry, and logic, the players struggle to delineate their evocative, elusive patterns of entanglement, but find that one emotional variable consistently remains unsolved. The Shape of a Girl by Joan MacLeodStone’s Throw Productions presents: THE SHAPE OF A GIRL by Joan MacLeod April 26-29 @ 8:00pm Pacific Theatre Vancouver (1440 W 12th Ave) Tickets at the door - festival seating Pay-what-you-think-it's-worth after the show “A girl in the shape of a monster. A monster in the shape of a girl.” Gripping, eye-opening and heart-wrenching. Stone’s Throw Productions ignites a thought-provoking exploration on bullying and violence between young girls. In this one-woman show, fifteen-year-old Braidie recounts the bullying she has seen within her own friend group from childhood through to adolescence. She is a bystander who reacts as many people do – looks down and says nothing. Based on the tragic Reena Virk murder, The Shape of a Girl by Joan MacLeod is an important reminder of the scary progression of bullying, the long-lasting damages it can cause, and how doing nothing contributes to the circle of violence. ADVISORY: Contains some strong language and references to violence.TheatreApr 26 - Apr 29
